The Make Escape

The Make Escape is a lovely concept, a monthly craft event where people can basically share skills, promote their ventures, and, well, make things. It’s kinda like a real life Etsy.
Last night was the launch night and it coincided with the launch of DIY Couture, a book which itself is also an awesome concept.
We got there a little bit later than planned (about an hour before it ended…) but did get the chance to make brooches (the photo above is my attempt).
The paisley ruffle shirt is pretty much complete.
Made a deerstalker hat using this helpful pattern/tutorial, and the material left over from my skirt project.
I made it for my little sister’s Sherlock Holmes costume but I’m tempted to erm… ‘requisition’ it.
For this year’s World Book Day (which is fast approaching) my little sister has decided to dress up as a female Sherlock Holmes. A kind of ‘Shirley’ Holmes if you a will. Naturally I offered to make the costume… and here’s my rough plan.
Holler for a lady like collar. As we gear up for spring, join the top-notch collar clan a la Louis Vuitton. Feel ultra femme and fancy free and get inspired with a super sweet DIY.To create, download the pattern we created for Who What Wear and trace onto eyelet fabric. Cut out collar silhouette. Use scissors to create a scalloped edge. Attach a small piece of Velcro as a closure. Style with high neck blouses, dresses, or jackets. Get creative with fabrics and colors!
Finally finished my tulip(ish) tweed skirt!

I used this helpful tutorial (with a few of my own minor changes/embellishments) to make a skirt from scratch…
Flowing florals at the Suno runway show at Milk Studios.
I have had this material from the V&A for over a year and I think I have finally got a good idea of what to do with it. A summer jacket with black and white pinstripe lining. Here, also, is the obligatory poor attempt at a croqui…
